First of all, if you haven’t taken a ride yet make sure you use the coupon “asifr4016ui”to get $20 off your first ride! Enter it right before you request a ride in the promotions tab. Might as well try it out since it probably wont cost you a thing! The app is easy to use and intuitive, giving you important info like the driver’s face, phone number, and car make/model. It’s amazing how quick and seamless the entire process is. A car comes to your door within minutes of pressing a button! The drivers are real people, they are very polite and their cars are clean! Some even come with complimentary water and candy! Even if you want to charge your phone, a lot of drivers have car chargers at your ready! UberX is definitely cheaper than your average cab. After all this, I don’t see why you would ever use a cab again. Even if you want to get a black car on the occasional night out, it’s still cheaper and more convenient than hiring your own private driver. The customer support is also fantastic. I got overcharged on one of my trips and I didn’t have to say anything more than a comment on my driver feedback to get a refund. I’m very happy and I hope Uber continues to exceed my expectations in not only the app but customer service! I also prefer Uber much more than other competitors, mainly because they have so much more supply and cars are always just a few minutes away, and price is usually the cheapest.

Why does it need continual access to my location?

Most every app respects peoples privacy by allowing you to set the Location Tracking to "While Using the App" in Location Settings. Uber refuses to do this despite thousands of requests across multiple App Stores (Canada and the U.S.A. to name a few). With every app update I hope to see this added in and yet STILL with the latest version, I cant change this setting. (Update: As of the latest July 25 update, Uber still does not allow this privacy setting!) Uber: Listen to your customers and allow US to set our privacy settings.

Tipping has ruined this app

In-app tipping has opened up a whole host of problems. Now drivers will only give good ratings if you tip. And since you cant use the in-app tipping until AFTER the ride, drivers have started to expect cash tips before they will give a good rating to a rider.

Battery draining due to location

Re-introduce While using App for location as it(app) is draining battery even in background. Reduce app size.

Invasive GPS tracking policy even after many user complaints

Location tracking is all or nothing with Uber. Normal apps offer "track only when using", but Uber demands "Always track". If the past year has taught us anything, its "dont trust Uber to do the right thing". It looks like theyre not in a hurry to listen to customers complaints, since were at least twelve updates in since I started paying attention to the GPS issue. It also seems like they abuse the app update system. Weekly 170MB updates with no change log. Thats half a gig per month, thanks guys.. Partial workaround for tracking: disable GPS for the Uber app, and only turn it back on if you absolutely need to use the app. And then turn it back off when you get to the destination. In the meantime Ive been using the friendly Uber competitor, and so far its worked like a charm. Thanks Uber, for encouraging me to check out other apps!

Terrible customer service, user experience and price fluctuations

Customer service never really helps with any issues or complaints I have, signed me up for a driver account I never wanted and I cant edit my personal info without completely filling out the driver app which requires my social security number and ID even though I dont drive and they permanently keep this info on file, but Im not a driver. Price for riding back and forth to places is crazy expensive now.

I will be using Lyft until you change your settings on location services always having to be on.

Sketchy borderline unethical company practices

Location services must always be on, they monitor your battery life and charge more when your battery is low since they know you cant research further.

Rigid inflexible app and company

I am a user based in Southeast Asia. First, i find the app to be very user-unfriendly. When I add a promotional code into the payment mode, there is no option to select, deselect, or delete the code from the trip Im taking. One would expect the app to allow the rider the flexibility of applying the desired promotional code rather than being forced to. Second, when I write in to customer help-desk, the staff gave stock responses and failed to address my needs. I do not feel appreciated as a customer. I would not recommend taking Uber to anyone.

Uber is Evil.

If you thought Google is evil, Uber is worst. They should be ashamed of themselves with the way they operate. Update: Stop tracking us!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uber should be banned by Apple for doing so, Apple shouldnt even allow having "no option" to just allow when using. All apps should require this. Uber is taking full advantage of it!!!! It draining my battery, and its evil on their part. They are acting like its really speeding up some data when its on when doing the same thing after turning it on and off. I really believe they just want to use that data for other reasons. Sometimes I forget to turn location off and its Fing annoying!!!! I shouldnt need to go to my settings every time Im done using it.

Used to love

Used to love this app, but latest version full of bugs, finding drivers very far away, price increased for peak hours and it is not clear the price is higher until you have requested a car. I dont understand why to make it worse to the end user.

Dissapointed

I usually sit without saying anything, just waiting to reach my destination but after i arrive and everything goes well i always get rated less then ? My rating has become a 4.3 just because of those situations

Bad app, bad company

The Uber app gives you the option to have location tracking either always or never. They claim its to enhance the user experience by monitoring you for 5 minutes after a ride. Not only is that creepy, if you give Uber location permission, its all the time, it doesnt shut off after 5 minutes. Uber makes the app almost unusable if you select the option for never. As a company, Uber is terrible. The map will place you in a completely different location and then they charge you when youre picked up at your real location rather than at the erroneous location they selected in their app. Drivers will cancel on you if they dont like your drop off location or drive away from you to force you to cancel. When this happens you get charged. Customer support, or rather lack of support, will reply with cookie cutter responses that dont address any real problems or concerns and they refuse to give refunds, only credits, even if you shouldnt have been charged in the first place. What good is a credit if I dont want to use Uber again. On top of all of this, there are multiple allegations of harassment internally at Uber, and allegations of assault by drivers. You would be wise to avoid using Uber!

Watch out overcharges!!

When you search the airport of your city, check the route carefully because possibly the destination is set to the middle of a runway and the route is several miles longer than it should be. As a result, youre paying $4~$6 extra for the distance you wont travel. I reported to Uber several month ago and never heard back. And, do they think people are used to the "Always on" location tracking? No reason for me to allow them to track my location 5 minutes after drop off, and no reason to trust them only doing what the claimed to do. And, people like me still havent forgotten that Uber requested hundreds of Lyft cars then cancelled them and did so again and again. What a mean company. Not that Im still using this app. In fact, I have not used it ever since I found the overcharging trap. Not to mention the location tracking. Im just keeping this app installed so that I can get back and leave a 1-star review whenever it is updated.

Tips creates war between drivers and passengers

One main reason I use Uber and have for years (VIP user) is because the cost has been equal to or less than NYC yellow taxis and the convenience of the service. With the addition of tips they have now lost both of these advantages. Yellow taxis are much easier to flag on the street now that Uber has taken so many customers and have become an attractive option again. The drivers now wait until you tip them to give a customer rating and rate low scores if you do not tip - low scores negatively affect the riders ability to get rides!
