Location tracking is all or nothing with Uber. Normal apps offer "track only when using", but Uber demands "Always track". If the past year has taught us anything, its "dont trust Uber to do the right thing". It looks like theyre not in a hurry to listen to customers complaints, since were at least fourteen updates in since I started paying attention to the GPS issue. It also seems like they abuse the app update system. Weekly 170MB updates with no change log. Thats half a gig per month, thanks guys.. Partial workaround for tracking: disable GPS for the Uber app, and only turn it back on if you absolutely need to use the app. And then turn it back off when you get to the destination. In the meantime Ive been using the friendly Uber competitor, and so far its worked like a charm. Thanks Uber, for encouraging me to check out other apps!
